Helping the Troops
For this month’s Good Neighbor award we are recognizing the
Stan and Haney D.R.A.F.T. Fund which stands for Direct Relief and
Assistance for Florida Troops. Stan Nawalaniec and Mark Haney, radio
personalities from 96 K-Rock came up with the idea to raise money
to go directly to troops and their families here in Southwest Florida.
As of this month they have donated $65,000. 100% of the money donated
has in turn, been given to troops and their families. $500 to $1,000
has been given out at a time depending on need.
The requests have been filtered through volunteer military personnel
so the most important needs are met. Local resident, Captain John
Lazzaro of the United States Naval Reserve leads the charge. The
money has helped military personnel from our area get phones to
call their families back home, pay bills to keep their families
secure and even buy Christmas gifts for their kids. One check allowed
an entire unit in Kuwait to have a good meal to lift their spirits.
We want to thank Stan and Haney for doing their part for the men
and women from Southwest Florida in the military.
